10 Tips for a Safe Halloween

It’s almost time to take your ghouls and goblins out for trick or treating! That’s right, it’s time for Halloween! For those of us who grew up in small neighborhoods, we probably didn’t see the amount of traffic that is on the roads today. Nor did we have quite so many safety concerns. In our modern times, however, it’s important to be vigilant when roaming around in the dark with our kiddies. Here are a 10 Du-Man tips for making sure that your night is as safe and fun as possible.

Tips for Parents and Trick or Treaters

  1. Always ensure that a responsible adult (or older sibling) accompanies children under 12.
  2. Wear bright or reflective clothing.
  3. Carry a flashlight so that cars can see you more easily.
  4. Plan your route the night before Halloween and share the course with the whole family.
  5. Curb the excitement at intersections. Always come to a complete stop and look both ways.
  6. Stay on sidewalks when available.
  7. Never cross the street from a hidden location such as behind cars or trees.
  8. Avoid costumes that require masks or clothing that can trip or hinder your movement.
  9. When sidewalks are unavailable, always walk facing traffic.
  10. Never jump out at vehicular traffic to scare the driver.

Remember, both drivers and trick-or-treaters should be careful on Halloween. Visibility may be reduced at twilight, and the late afternoon sun can be blinding. Remain alert and make this and every Halloween an absolutely spooky and fun event!
